Buen Camino, the film directed by Gennaro Nunziante, follows the life of Checco (Checco Zalone). Checco lives a wealthy and extremely comfortable life, and it couldn’t be otherwise since he is the only son of Eugenio Zalone, a very rich sofa manufacturer. Lounging by the pool in his luxurious villas, served by an unspecified number of Filipino staff, with a very young Mexican model as his girlfriend, and spending holidays on his yacht with friends who share his passion for not working, Checco’s life seems truly enviable: he lacks absolutely nothing. Or rather, almost nothing.
Something is missing. It is his underage daughter Cristal, named after the famous French sparkling wine, who has suddenly disappeared without a trace. Urgently summoned to Rome by his ex-wife Linda, Checco is forced for the first time to face the responsibilities of fatherhood by trying to find the girl—a very complicated task, given that he knows absolutely nothing about Cristal or her life.
Help comes from Corina, Cristal’s best friend, whom Checco manages to bribe into confessing that his daughter has left for Spain. To do what? By reaching her, Checco discovers that Cristal has decided to walk the Camino de Santiago as a pilgrim: 800 kilometers on foot in search of meaning in her life—an immense distance that Checco considers madness, yet one he will reluctantly be forced to undertake himself.
Along sun-scorched paths, cold and rainy mountains, through small remote villages, eating whatever is available and sleeping in dilapidated, overcrowded hostels, Checco will try to rebuild his relationship with Cristal. The challenge seems almost impossible, but as we know, a journey can change a life—and make it truly rich.
