PLOT

Era, directed by Vincenzo Marra, is set in Naples and follows Lina, an elderly woman only on paper, because in reality she is an inexhaustible bundle of energy, humor, and an unyielding zest for life.
Widowed for many years, she refuses to give up her independence. She runs a lively Catholic association for bourgeois women, cares for her sister Maria and a nephew who has never really grown up, and continues, without hesitation, to play the role of an “old-school” mother to her three sixty-year-old children, constantly facing economic, romantic, or existential crises. For Lina, every problem has a solution, and no attempt by her children to convince her to enter a retirement home can shake her determination. Every Thursday, she visits her late husband at the cemetery and plays scopone with her sister, all while the affectionate and persistent presence of Don Eduardo, the neighbor of indeterminate age, continues to court her.
But her balance is disrupted when Lina suffers a health scare and can no longer live alone. She must decide whether to move into a nursing home or accept help from a caregiver. After an unlikely “domestic casting,” Lina chooses Amilà, a woman from Sri Lanka who has lived in Naples for years but has never truly integrated. What begins as a relationship of necessity evolves into an unexpected and profound bond, capable of transforming not only their lives but also those around them, showing that the meeting of different worlds can create a new kind of family.
